Challenge
Mark Lloyd is an award-winning Master Goldsmith with an exceptional reputation, distinctive jewellery collections and more than 25 years of craftsmanship. However, the ecommerce website he had recently commissioned from another agency wasn’t doing the brand justice.
While technically functional, the website was difficult for Mark and his team to manage and update, and wasn’t effectively converting the traffic being generated through ongoing marketing activity.
Excellent products and collections were not being showcased to their full potential. Navigation made it difficult for customers to find what they were looking for, while new jewellery was mixed alongside pre-owned and vintage pieces, creating a confusing customer journey.
Crucially, some of Mark’s strongest USPs — bespoke jewellery, his Master Goldsmith expertise and bespoke GIA diamond engagement rings — lacked the prominence and presentation they deserved.
Rather than starting again, the challenge was to take the existing WordPress ecommerce platform and make it work harder: combining design, marketing strategy, stronger messaging and improved user journeys to better reflect the quality of the Mark Lloyd brand and ultimately turn more visitors into customers.
SOLUTION
Rather than simply redesigning pages, we looked at the website from a customer and marketing perspective, reviewing key user journeys and how visitors moved from initial interest through to browsing products, booking an appointment or purchasing online.
Navigation and product collections were simplified, making it much easier to understand the different ranges and quickly find relevant products. We also gave greater prominence to Mark’s key services and USPs, particularly his unique collections, bespoke jewellery, GIA diamond engagement rings and his physical showroom, with clearer opportunities to book an appointment and meet Mark in person.
Visually, we introduced significantly more creative, manipulated product imagery, moving beyond standard white-background photography to showcase the jewellery in a more desirable, premium and aspirational way. Imagery was also specifically optimised for mobile, creating a stronger experience across different screen sizes.
Alongside the visual improvements, we strengthened SEO throughout the ecommerce store, including better product and collection descriptions, page structure, image naming and alt tags. This helped products become more discoverable through search rather than relying solely on customers navigating through the website.
The result has been a website that works much harder commercially — website visits have increased, more customers are discovering individual products through search, and showroom appointment enquiries have grown, creating a much stronger connection between Mark’s online presence and his physical jewellery business.
A key part of the website strategy was to simplify and better organise the product offering. Rather than overwhelming visitors with too many products and choices at once, we created clearer collections and more focused routes into the jewellery range.
Reducing choice helps customers make decisions more easily, allowing key pieces and collections to stand out rather than compete with one another. It also creates a more premium, curated feel — particularly important for a luxury jewellery brand where quality and craftsmanship should take precedence over volume.
Clearer product groupings also improved the overall user journey, helping customers quickly understand the different collections, find jewellery relevant to their needs and move more naturally towards a purchase or showroom appointment.
Enhanced Jewellery Product Imagery
Incorporating stronger product imagery was key to enhancing the Mark Lloyd website. We introduced impactful banner imagery featuring Mark’s jewellery, digitally enhancing and manipulating existing product photography to move away from standard white backgrounds. Instead, pieces are presented in more aspirational, premium settings that better showcase their quality, craftsmanship and desirability.
